Black Eyewear is the brainchild of optician turned designer Robert Roope. Robert has 50 years experience as an optician before turning his hand to design. Dissatisfied with a lack of simple and stylish frames on the market, Roope looked to design inspiration from his favourite era of optics, the 1950s, to create his first collection of six iconic black frames.

The early designs within the Black Eyewear collection were artistically influenced by jazz musicians and the eyeglasses they wore in the 1950s. As described by Roope, this particular decade wielded profound influence over eyewear design, consequently shaping the future trajectory of the optical industry.

Born out of his frustrations with the lack of quality men’s tailoring and clothing in Budapest, Simon Skottowe opened his eponymous bespoke tailoring atelier in 2001. Moving to larger premises in 2015 allowed him to reorganise both the cutting and the sewing workshop while at the same time expanding the selection of specially selected Ready-To-Wear menswear collection from some of Europe’s most prestigious manufacturers.

Their RTW one-piece collar model inspired by the original polo shirt worn by Fred Perry is a casual icon that has become a firmly established favourite with connoisseurs worldwide. The pattern is made up of high-quality cotton pique, dyed in exclusive colours.
